How to Care for Your Beaded Handbag
Hand-beaded bags are more delicate than your average handbag — but with a little care, yours can stay just as vibrant for years as it was the day you unboxed it.
1Store It Standing Up, Not Stacked
Beadwork can crush or catch on other items if it’s stored flat under heavy things. Keep your bag upright in a closet or drawer, ideally in a soft dust bag, so nothing rubs against the beading over time.
2Skip the Water
Beaded bags and water don’t mix — moisture can loosen the thread that holds each bead in place. If your bag gets caught in rain or a spill, blot it gently with a dry cloth immediately and let it air dry away from direct heat.
3Spot Clean Only
Never machine wash or fully submerge a beaded bag. For light dirt or dust, use a soft, dry brush or a barely damp cloth on the affected area only, then let it dry completely before storing.
4Watch the Sun
Direct sunlight can fade beadwork over time, especially the brighter colors. Keep your bag out of direct sun when it’s not in use — a closet or drawer is always safer than a sunny shelf.
5Mind the Strap and Hardware
If your bag has a chain or adjustable strap, unclip it when the bag is in long-term storage to avoid stress on the hardware, and check the zipper regularly to make sure it’s moving smoothly.
6Loose Bead? Don’t Pull
If you ever notice a loose bead or thread, resist the urge to pull it — that can unravel more of the pattern. Instead, gently tuck it back in place or reach out to us for repair guidance.
With a bit of care, a hand-beaded bag can easily become a piece you reach for again and again for years to come.
